The intention of the Trade Honours Program is to provide pathways for qualified tradespeople seeking to further their study within their chosen trade area. Currently, there are excellent pathways for some trade areas whereas some trades do not have formalised pathways developed.

There is currently no other course which provides a pathway for qualified tradespeople to achieve higher level skills which can still relate directly to their trade area.

The Trade Honours Program is designed to address this gap in education and training and to foster the development of staff and retain them within the enterprise in higher level technical roles.

The underpinning philosophy of the Trade Honours Program is that students and employers will be able to select skill sets that are directly suited to the business, fostering the development of higher technical skills in staff to fill key roles relevant to the enterprises.

The program will be a 'one size fits all' structure based on an 'Honours' model with core competencies covering areas such as business planning, marketing and sales, mathematics, computer software and trade specific electives.
